NSA Cheerleaders Discover Value of Privacy Only When Their Own Privacy Is Violated

A number of U.S. politicians have been vocal about the NSA’s spying and decoding of private telephone conversations, email messages, and text messages. They apparently believe it is appropriate and necessary for the government to spy on everyone. It is amusing that some of these same politicians became indignant when they recently discovered the NSA also is recording the politicians’ own messages and phone calls! Now some of the former supporters are calling for a change in policy.

One example is Representative Pete Hoekstra who has always defended the NSA’s spying activities. When Hoekstra discovered the NSA was recording his own phone calls, emails, and text messages, he posted the following on Twitter:

“NSA and Obama officials need to be investigated and prosecuted if any truth to [Wall Street Journal] reports. NSA loses all credibility. Scary.”
