The next update to Windows 10, to be released in October, is expected to “warn” users to never install Microsoft’s biggest web browser competitors: Chrome or Firefox. The pop-up message reportedly says that these two big-time competitor are not as safe and secure as Microsoft’s own Edge browser.

Don’t believe it. Experience has shown the opposite to be true: Both Chrome and Firefox have proven to be more secure than Microsoft’s Edge web browser. Microsoft apparently is weary of their customers switching to more secure web browsers created by other companies and is not against generating misleading FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) about the competitors.

“You already have Microsoft Edge – the safer, faster browser for Windows 10” says a prompt that appears when you run the Chrome or Firefox installers on the latest Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

While the prompts can be turned off, they’re yet another example of Microsoft infesting Windows 10 with annoying ads and pop-ups.

   Whenever I get a new computer I use MS’s included browser once. To download Chrome and Firefox. Then I never open it again.
   I did the same with my iPhone. Used Safari once to download Chrome and have used that ever since.
   I’m happy with my choice of browsers and have no need to add a third just because it came with the computer or phone.
   As MSIE crumbled and became increasingly insecure over time I was very happy with my choices. I see no reason to risk seeing if MS can keep Edge secure over time when I have two browsers already that I know well.

   I just switched from Chrome to the new Firefox to see how it’s working. Then I read this about Microsoft. I personally don’t like Microsoft Edge at all and don’t use it.

   With this sort of “nasty” message from Microsoft about their competitors has made me decide, the minute I can, to buy a Mac.

   The greed of corporate America has got to stop. People like what they like and to be threatened not to “EVER” download two perfectly fine browsers is just unacceptable, to me anyways.

   Uh, the sick tantrums Microsoft throws, crying “Mommy, me want back me computer monopoly”
   Mommy slaps Microsoft hard.
   Mommy says, ” Mic, grow up, mature, and get some good ideas instead of forcing your crap down everyone throat.”
   Mic, listen to your mom.
