India to Intercept, Monitor, and Decrypt Citizens’ Computers

Big Brother is alive, well, and expanding his spying operations in India. The Indian government has authorized 10 central agencies to intercept, monitor, and decrypt data on any computer, sending a shock wave through citizens and privacy watchdogs.

Narendra Modi’s government late Thursday broadened the scope of Section 69 of the nation’s IT Act, 2000 to require a subscriber, service provider, or any person in charge of a computer to “extend all facilities and technical assistance to the agencies.” Failure to comply with the agencies could result in seven years of imprisonment and an unspecified fine.

Aren’t you glad you don’t live in India? Oh, wait a minute… do you think YOUR government might be doing the same thing?

Yes, Australia is about to do so (see https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site%3Aprivacyblog.com+australia+%22back+door%22&t=h_&ia=web) and undoubtedly many other countries are already doing something similar without telling their citizens about the governmental spying.

I will suggest that it is time to use a VPN to create a secure “tunnel” to another country where governmental spying isn’t allowed. (Most of the Scandinavian countries, Germany, Switzerland, Iceland, Singapore, and probably several others.)

For U.S. residents, keep in mind that the U.S. government is already monitoring all phone calls, all emails and all internet activity, according to a rather old report by Michael Snyder at https://www.infowars.com/the-u-s-government-is-monitoring-all-phone-calls-all-emails-and-all-internet-activity/. I believe it is a safe bet that the U.S. government has INCREASED its spying on its own citizens with questionable legality since that report was published in 2013.

You can learn more about the “Enemies of the Internet” list that documents all the known large-scale online spying by governments at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_and_surveillance_by_country. You will notice the United States is keeping company with a number of disreputable, anti-democracy countries on that list.
