Are you still using Internet Explorer in your Windows computer? If so, you need to switch to a better and safer web browser NOW!
Internet Explorer was first released in 1995 (24 years ago, several lifetimes when measured in Internet years!) and has always had lots of problems with security. Over the years, hackers have again and again been able to steal credit card numbers, passwords, and more from computers that used Internet Explorer to access the World Wide Web. Microsoft kept patching and patching the browser as vulnerabilities were discovered but new vulnerabilities continued to appear often. It was sort of a computer version of the “Whac-A-Mole” game.
No web browser is ever perfect but almost all other browsers are safer to use than Internet Explorer.
Microsoft eventually stopped supporting Internet Explorer and created a brand-new web browser to replace it. Microsoft Edge, officially unveiled on January 21, 2015, has replaced Internet Explorer as the default browser on Windows 10. According to Microsoft, development of new features for Internet Explorer has ceased.
According to an article by John E Dunn published in the Sophos web site at http://bit.ly/2UuU96g, still ANOTHER serious security problem recently has been uncovered in Internet Explorer. Even worse, Microsoft has decided that the company will not fix the problem on software nobody should be using anyway. Here is Microsoft’s statement:
“We determined that a fix for this issue will be considered in a future version of this product or service. At this time, we will not be providing ongoing updates of the status of the fix for this issue, and we have closed this case.”
What should you do? The answer seems obvious: Switch to a more secure web browser.
The next question is, “Which browser?” The short answer is: “Any other web browser. All the others are safer than Internet Explorer.”
However, there are several that are well known for very high security:
The Tor Browser is probably the most secure web bowser available today and it is available free of charge at: https://www.torproject.org/. It even installs its own VPN for maximum security. However, the Tor Browser has some other drawbacks, including slow operation. That will discourage some users.
Probably most Windows users will simply switch to Microsoft Edge, a newer web browser that is included with every copy of Windows 10. However, as the NordVPN site at https://nordvpn.com/blog/best-privacy-browser/ says:
“Internet Explorer is a joke and has memes to prove it. Meanwhile, its touted successor Edge has only had two updates since the beginning of 2017, which does nothing to assure Edge users of its security strengths.”

Beyond not using Internet Explorer, you should take the added step of uninstalling it from your Windows computer. Even if you don’t use this browser, malware can execute the software if it’s installed.
