WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram May Soon Be Banned

Due to a patent infringement case that Facebook recently lost, its apps including WhatsApp and Instagram may soon be prohibited, at least in Germany where it lost the case. That may result in the same apps later being banned worldwide.

I believe banning these apps would be a good thing. WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram all have been plagued by security problems. Each has been proven to “leak” data and messages easily.

A better solution is for everyone to switch to apps that have proven to be much more secure, such as Signal or Pryvate, both available for Android as well as Apple iOS, or any of the following apps that are only available for Android:

  • Silent Phone
  • Cyphr
  • Wire
  • Dust
  • Viber

and maybe some others.
